About La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, (Puerto Vallarta) Mexico

La Cruz is on the Pacific Ocean in the Bay of Banderas.  The Bay has been recognized as one of the 7 most beautiful Bays in the World.  The Bay of Banderas is considered a major vacation resort area, with Puerto Vallarta being the anchor.  Puerto Vallarta became a popular tourist destination in the 1960's when the movie "Night of the Iguana" was made there.  Ever since then, the Bay area has exploded with tourist and resort growth, the northern end of the bay being the newest developed of the areas.  In the late 1990's the state-of-the-art highway was completed which links all these towns on the bay together to be one big resort area.  The whole Bay is on the city bus line, making all points of the Bay easily accessible.  (The villa is about 2 blocks from the city bus stop).  In La Cruz you have ocean on one side and mountains on the other.  The vegetation is lush and vibrant.  The town is clean and well-built.

You will find exciting things to do in La Cruz such as:

  • Great Authentic Mexican Restaurants + a wide variety of other restaurant fares
  • Peaceful Beach Areas
  • A Quaint Marina
  • Fishing
  • Snorkeling

The Possibilites are Exciting...

There is never a loss for something to do in this popular resort destination.  Being in La Cruz let's you be away from the crowds of the city and large hotels with a smaller town setting.  You have it all here!

Below is an excerpt from International Living Magazine, Latin American Editorial Director Suzan Haskins:

Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s best beach resorts, in my estimation. I far prefer it over Cancún, Los Cabos, Acapulco, or Mazatlán, for example. Why? There’s a real Mexican-flavored town here, for one reason. I love its traditionally Catholic Our Lady of Guadalupe Church that anchors its cobblestoned downtown area—the gilded crown that tops this photo opp is a replica of the crown worn by Carlota, empress of Mexico in the 1860s. I love to walk the seaside malecón or amble the river walk area along the Rio Cuale where some of the city’s best restaurants are found—at night little twinkly lights sparkle from the trees and lilting laughter and rhythms of live jazz combos softly float on the soft night air. The Romantic Zone, too, is a favorite place, retaining the charm (but in a newly Bohemian manner) of Old Mexico.

What I love most about Puerto Vallarta, though, is the Bay of Banderas itself. The third-largest and one of the deepest bays in the world, the horseshoe-shaped Banderas Bay (Bay of Flags) is believed to have been formed by an ancient volcanic crater. The bay measures nearly 20 miles across and is rimmed by more than 40 miles of coastline. Anchored by the sophisticated Vallarta, there are also small towns that dot this bay…and private protected inlets where you can swim, dive, or snorkel (beautiful) or maybe even catch a flounder for your supper. The jungled Sierra Madre mountains slide right down to the shore in some places, making for some spectacular scenery and a very exotic feel to it all.
